Karoo Ridge Conservancy is owned by Karoo Wildlife Estates, a company founded to restore, protect and safeguard the diverse wildlife, landscape and natural resources of the region through ecologically sound farming and veld management practices.  The company is run by nature and conservation experts Pete and Helen Wenham.  Chris and Liz Floyd are directors and major shareholders who visit regularly.

The Conservancy is set in the foothills of the Stormberg Mountains in the Upper Karoo in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The Conservancy comprises over 5,000 hectares of varied terrain – mountains, plains and riverine valleys that support a wide range of birdlife, flora and fauna. The preservation of this landscape and its inhabitants is one of the chief purposes of the estate. The business has an emphasis on breeding rare game and builds on Pete and Helen’s previous experience with sable, buffalo and other animals.

Karoo Ridge Conservancy is developing a sustainable property that contributes to research and education in the international conservation sector and to economic development in the local area. After eight years of operation the business has several breeding programmes in place with growing herds of Gemsbuck, Blesbuck, Red Hartebeest, Springbuck, Zebra, Nyala, Black Wildebeest and Sable. The farm also has indigenous Kudu and Mountain Reedbuck. Nguni and Ankole cattle provide medium term cash flows and also help regenerate some of the grassland.

The Conservancy also operates two luxury eco-lodges for visitors.  These are both available on a self catering or fully catered basis.  We welcome enquiries from visitors who wish to explore the wilderness, watch the wildlife and birdlife or simply relax in peaceful surroundings.  For further information, please visit the Karoo Ridge Conservancy website or the Karoo Ridge Facebook or Instagram pages.
